The Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) is supporting and encouraging local classical music lovers by purchasing the world’s largest online classical music database as well as copies of all the CDs of the music that will feature in this year’s Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s (MSO) Geelong performances.
The internationally recognised MSO is once again coming to Geelong’s Costa Hall to perform a series of five spectacular concerts, starting on Friday the 23rd of March with a program featuring Haydn, Beethoven and Shostakovich.
Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board Chair, Cr Andy Richards said “To get the most out of any concert, it’s great to be familiar with the music before you attend and also to be able to re-live the experience afterwards.
“To help with this, we’ve committed to buying all the music that will be played by MSO in Geelong this year for our collection to make it available to all library members.
“There’s two ways people can do this. Either by borrowing the CDs or by streaming, via their internet connection, the thousands of tracks on offer from Naxos Music Library, our newest online music database available from our Online Collections on the library website”, Cr Richards said.
Naxos Music Library offers free streaming access to more than 52,677 CDs and 756,740 tracks. It is free for library members to access from the GRLC website. It will continue to grow with over 800 new CDs added to the library’s collection each month. The Naxos Music Library also covers an extensive range of popular genres including classic pop, rock music, jazz and other cultural music.
‘’The Naxos Music Library will not only benefit MSO fans, but also subscribers to other Geelong classical music events such as Geelong Chamber Music, Music at the Basilica, Trio Anima Mundi and the Geelong Choral.
“It gives the community access to a remarkable pool of music from around the world to enjoy. It will also help to support students and teachers, providing resources to assist with exam pieces, assignments and teaching materials’’, Cr Richards said.
