Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) is pleased to announce that Cr Andy Richards of the City of Greater Geelong was elected as Chair at its first Board meeting for 2012.
Cr Richards takes over from fellow Board Member Cr Rod Macdonald who served as Chair from April 2007 to January 2012. Cr David Cotsell of Golden Plains Shire was elected Deputy Chair.
Cr Richards acknowledged the many achievements of immediate past Chair, Cr Rod Macdonald, and said he looked forward to continuing his work.
“Throughout Cr Macdonald’s term as Chair we have seen significant growth and investment in our library services right across the region.
“The GRLC has increased the range of services, collections and initiatives thanks to the very successful advocacy activity led by Cr Macdonald. We have also worked in partnership with all member Councils on a number of Library Capital projects, including the redevelopment of Belmont, Geelong West, Newcomb and Drysdale Libraries, whilst also opening two magnificent new libraries at Lara and Waurn Ponds.
“The Geelong Library and Heritage Centre has received funding to undergo a multi-million dollar upgrade, the Torquay Library will be refurbished in the first half of this year, Bannockburn Library will be opening in a couple of months and planning is well underway for new libraries at Leopold and Armstrong Creek.
“We know every dollar invested in the Geelong region’s library services returns $7.46 in economic benefits to our community.
“We will continue to build on the successes of recent years to ensure that over 270,000 people in the communities serviced by our Library Corporation can continue to receive the latest in library services and innovations”, Cr Richards said.
Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board Members are: Cr Barbara Abley, Cr Helene Butler, Cr David Cotsell, Cr Cameron Granger, Cr Rod Macdonald, Cr Joe Remenyi and Cr Andy Richards.
